Centuries ago, lively trade connected Montafon and the Prättigau. With the establishment of the national border, this exchange became illegal and goods had to be smuggled between the valleys. Today, the route is open, offering You distinctive nature experiences.
This two-day mountain hike around the Madrisa takes You through landscapes shaped by smuggling stories and historic muleteers’ trails. You cross the Swiss border twice and encounter impressive panoramic views, diverse geology, and rich alpine flora.
The tour begins at the top station of the Gargellen mountain lifts, continues over the Gafierjoch into the Madrisa area above Klosters, and returns the following day via the Schlappinerjoch to Gargellen after an overnight stay in the Swiss village.
